We enjoyed our last breakfast together in our Airbnb in Brussels. John was at the helm in the kitchen!
We opted to split up today! John decided to stay back at the ranch to do laundry (bless him) and catch up on a few things; Jas, Chloe snd the boys were heading to Ghent for the day; while Jon and I were booked for the TOOT bus tour to see the ATOMIUM (among other things). We were also booked to tour the Belgium Beer Museum!
First, the Atomium!
Would you believe, even though it was advertised as being open 365 days a year, it was “exceptionally closed” when we arrived! Darn! But it was still cool to see!
Mini-Europe was close by but we decided to forego it to enjoy a coffee
and a brewski! (Can you guess who had what?)
In case you were wondering where exactly the Atomium is located, here you go!
Back on the TOOT bus we stopped at the fourth stop to have lunch. I forget what the area was called but it was really cool. Jon picked this restaurant and did we ever have an amazing meal (and beer, of course)!
Along with the TOOT bus tour came a walking tour of the street art in the neighborhood! It took awhile to figure out the app on my phone, but once we did, it was really fun! It was a great way to walk along the streets passing by cafe after cafe filled with people! Who doesn’t LOVE people watching in a foreign country? On top of that the street art was cool! (Jon has most of the street art photos that he forgot to send to me!)
Later in the afternoon we got a text from Jas that they were back from Ghent and heading to the Grand-Place area to meet up. John texted that the laundry was finished and he too was heading that way. Jon and I discovered that the area we got off the tour bus was only an eight minute walk to Grand-Place. It couldn’t have worked out better!
Jas, Chloe and the boys loved Ghent, Belgium!
We met up back at our favorite pub, Delirium, while waiting for Papa!
Papa soon arrived and Jonah was thrilled and had LOTS to tell him about his day!
Jas asked us how the Belgium Beer Museum was and Jonathan and I looked at each other and said, “Say what?” We had TOTALLY forgotten to go to it! So up we got and off we went!
It was a really AMAZING experience and we were so glad we got to see it!
After enjoying a couple of complimentary beers on the rooftop overlooking the city, we met up with the gang for our final dinner together in Belgium!
Jonah wanted pasta and pasta he got!
August wanted a waffle with ice cream and chocolate and that is what he got! (Lucky kid!)
After everyone was stuffed to the max we headed to Central Station to catch the train back to the ranch…and we heard two really loud bangs. People started running past us away from the station.
Apparently teachers were protesting and some students joined in and it got a little “heated.” Yup, we were right there smack dab in the middle of it. Police and armed guards were everywhere. And, I forgot to mention, the stroller needed yet another MAJOR duck tape operation on its’ wheel so Jason basically carried it and Jonah through the madness into the station,
where, I’m happy to report, it was perfectly calm! Well, that certainly made our last night together memorable!
