We bid a fond farewell to Edinburgh, (after three failed Ubers, one failed taxi, and FINALLY an Uber that showed up), after we hopped on yet another train to Glasgow, Scotland (a first for John and I)!
It took about an hour to arrive at our destination.
As we left the train station, when we looked left we saw this,
and when we looked right we saw this! We didn’t know anything about anything at this point, except that Glasgow was a city twice as large as Edinburgh and was also filled with old (did I say “old”) beautiful buildings!
We stopped to get refueled at The Piper, another Scottish pub! (When you travel with John, you never miss a meal!)
Would you look at our lunch options? We were beginning to get used to seeing Bangers & Mash, and Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, on the menus! (Good Grief! 🤪)
Michael had texted us with the challenge to find the Duke of Wellington statue with traffic cones on his head and that of his horse. He said he saw on Instagram where the Scottish players that came to Boston were wearing traffic cones on their head, modeling the Duke of Wellington here! (I guess it was “a thing” in Boston!) During our walk around town after dinner, we found him! (There he was, Michael, in all his glory!)
Walking the Glasgow downtown streets was so much fun! Not only was seeing the locals enjoying their pints enjoyable, but listening to the Scottish conversations taking place was THE BEST! (Barely a word that we overheard could be understood!)
Buchanan Street was the main drag and the “happening place” to be!
Patte and I caught Mike and John window shopping. Guess they were picking out their first kilt to bring back to the USA! (Look out world!)
We stopped by a pub called Waxy O’Connor’s for a pint of beer and dinner!
After dinner, Mike returned from the restroom laughing. He told us that he had never felt obliged to take a photo in a bathroom until now. (Now THAT was a first!)
We were stuffed after yet another heavy Scottish meal so, after dinner, we walked back to our Airbnb. We were pooped after a day of travel (a one hour train ride!?!). Can’t wait to explore tomorrow (when our bellies are empty and we have more energy!)
Good Night, Glasgow!
I LOVE the picture of the Duke of Wellington statue!!!
