Because the forecast was cool but clear today, we chose to take a train to Cupar, Scotland and then a bus to Fife, Scotland, home of the infamous St. Andrew’s Golf Club. The train station looked like any train station, except a man walked by wearing a kilt, reminding us that we were, indeed, in SCOTLAND!
We were sold on Scotland cuz Scotland was sold on us (older people)! This sticker was prominently displayed on every car of every train we saw!
Our train arrived in Cupar where we then had to wait for the bus to arrive. Two VERY SCOTTISH gentlemen were waiting as well and, man oh man, did we have a lively conversation with them! I understood roughly about 35% of the words that came out of their mouths as their Scottish brogue was soooo thick! We all laughed so hard we just had to get a photo together!
The bus dropped us off and there stood St, Andrew’s Old Course (the oldest course in THE WORLD), in all of its’ glory!
We decided lunch at the Jigger Inn sounded good and it certainly was! We imagined all of the famous golf players that had sat at the very booth we were sitting in!
After lunch we braved the chilly wind of the day and took our turns getting photos on the Swilken Bridge, the small stone bridge on the 18th hole of the Old Course, dating back to the 15th century! Notice the blue skies and sunshine behind us! The weather had certainly improved (thank goodness)!
We watched some of the players finish their round of golf with the large breakers of the North Sea in the background!
The train ride home was fun looking out over the water. The train ticket collector came by and told us what to look for. He said that sometimes you could see seals on the rocks below! We passed some beautiful sights but didn’t see a single seal (darn it)!
Back in Edinburgh, we were amazed by the ancient buildings we saw all over the city!
Of course, we just had to stop at the Hard Rock to pick up yet another t-shirt for John! Patte and Mike each bought one as well since they recently moved to a condo development called Edinburgh Village in Ohio. They are going to wear their new shirts to the next HOA meeting to try to convince the board to change the pronunciation to Eh*duhn*bruh Village!
We chose an adorable Scottish pub for dinner and drinks. Patte tried Hagis, the most Scottish thing you can eat, for the first time! If you want to know what Hagis is, Google it! I guarantee the majority of you will quickly decide NOT to EVER try it! John, Patte and I all loved it, Mike, not so much!
Back at our Airbnb, the boys sat down and spent time drinking bourbon, (I mean they spent time buying tickets for tomorrow’s adventures). This is on the agenda tomorrow—the Edinburgh castle!
