We woke up this morning to a text that our tiny travelers made it back to the USA!
We got ready and headed out for 9:00AM mass. Loved the architecture in Luxembourg and
how they sucked up the garbage
from their awesome looking trash receptacles! (It’s the little things, ya know!)
We got to the church only to find out mass was not until 9:45! (Ooops!)
So we walked around the corner and enjoyed a coffee before
heading back to the church. Not only was the service in French, but it was a high mass. (You owe me BIG TIME, Dieds!)
After mass we walked to a nearby restaurant for a delightful breakfast where we decided to
to the City Tour bus stop. We bought tickets and set out to see the sights of the city!
We drove past the Gëlle Fra (Luxembourgish for “Golden Lady”), an iconic, gold-plated bronze statue located in Place de la Constitution in Luxembourg City.
The views from the bus were lovely and reminded us that we weren't in the USA anymore!
We stopped and got to walk around the Bock Casemates, the vast network of underground tunnels and galleries that earned the city the nickname “Gibraltar of the North”.
We were able to take a walk along the Chemin de la Corniche, often called the “most beautiful balcony in Europe”.
The sights along the way were delightful!
We took the panoramic glass elevator to the top and then down to the quiet, picturesque, 10th-century district nestled along the Almeter River, The Grund.
The views were great! If you look closely, you’ll see the cafe where we stopped for a brewski!
We walked around the tiny town of Grund,
before grabbing a couple of beers!
We sat back and simply enjoyed watching the people milling around the town!
John wanted to see Cathedral Notre Dame so we put it in Google Maps and were surprised that it was very walkable! As we got close, the area was packed with shops, cafes and people! (Have I mentioned how we love shops, cafes and people?)
We arrived at Notre Dame where
we went inside and John lit a candle. It was a beautiful cathedral.
Back outside we came across a BIG garage sale in the main square!
We decided that it was high time for an appetizer or two after our earlier beers and proceeded to sit and eat a couple satay and spring rolls while we did what we love to do—people watched!
On the way back to our Airbnb (both of our phones needed a good charge by this time), we walked through Villa Haute, the historic Old Town of Luxembourg (a UNESCO World Heritage site). It was right across from the Grand Ducal Palace.
Once our phones were fully charged once again, we went out in search of a good dinner! You could literally eat around the world just steps from our flat! We chose the Taj Mahal for some good Indian food! It was over-the-top DELISH!
It proved to be the perfect ending to a great day!
Good Night, Luxembourg!
