EDINBURGH CASTLE, JOHNNY WALKER WHISKEY EXPERIENCE AND THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH!

We were castle bound this morning in Edinburgh!  We took an Uber as far as the Uber could take us and then walked the rest of the way up!

Believe me, there were quite a lot of amazing buildings to look at as we meandered up the hill to the castle.

It was brisk out, but I was quite comfy in my long underwear, multiple layers, and gloves!

We all picked out shops we would like to visit when the tour was over.  It didn’t surprise Patte or me that Mike and John chose this shop!

As we stood in line facing the castle, this was what was behind us.  Set up was going on for the Royal Military Tattoo (a bagpipe competition of some sort).  What a backdrop the castle would make for a music competition!

We entered the castle and, of course, the photo taking began in earnest!

Mike began thinking about retiring from retirement and taking up cannon shooting.  The only problem would be the loading of ammunition into the cannon as each cannonball weighed around 350 pounds.

John began thinking about retiring from retirement to become a castle guard.  His only challenge would be  not moving a muscle for hours.  He can barely sit still for a minute (when traveling)!

The castle was beautiful; the history we learned via the audio guide was intriguing; and the weather improved later in the day!  Wins on all accounts!

In true Scottish tradition, a bagpiper was playing on our way down from the castle.  Neither John or Mike seemed even a little bit interested in applying for that job!

We stopped towards the bottom of the hill to grab a quick lunch at yet another Scottish pub,.

and then proceeded to walk to the Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Experience.  (Michael, I kid you not, it was 3/10’s of a mile away!)  Sights that we passed along the way were fabulous!

We made it inside and experienced an amazingly over-the-top whiskey experience!  (And I don’t even like whiskey!)

We created our personal favorite Johnny Walker drinks and enjoyed THREE of them during our time there.  (Actually, one of us consumed less than three while John (I mean one of us) consumed more!

We all agreed that it was quite the impressive tour!  Back outside, we Ubered it to the nearby “Uni” of Edinburgh campus.  We walked around campus until we found the Student Union and what we used to call a “Book Store”.  Patte and Mike made some purchases and went back outside in search of a Scottish pub for dinner!

We found The Gilded Saloon where we enjoyed our last meal in Edinburgh!  Oh, what a day!

We came back to our flat to watch a movie called The Quiet Man that an (extremely talkative) Irish lady at lunch had highly recommended (actually she was shocked and appalled that none of us had ever heard of it)!  We tried but couldn’t get it, so we switched and watched Eugene Levy’s Reluctant Traveler instead.  We saw the episode where he interviews Prince William at Windsor Castle and afterwards they share a pint at Two Brewer’s Pub.  It was so much fun seeing the places we had just visited during our time in London!

                                                               Good Night, Edinburgh!
